About me

When faced with mental health it becomes tough to move past difficult days and we start to feel disconnected from ourselves and others around us.  I work towards helping you heal the past, focus on the present and increase hope for a more fulfilling future. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have a Masters in Counselling Psychology and Bachelors in Psychology and Counselling, with a focus on Asian studies. I have completed training level 1 of Gottman Method Couples Therapy. In practice, I specialize in working with children and youth; I have worked cross-culturally with families and children who struggle with a range of concerns such as, anxiety, depression, addiction, suicide, and parent-teen conflict.

Professionally, I work both in the private and public mental health sectors. I have worked within the Surrey School District for several years, working with vulnerable youth, guiding and assisting students as needed, providing ongoing support to students with emotional distress, substance use concerns, and other related issues. I provided education, prevention and intervention services for students who are drug-active or at-risk of use, while also supporting parents/guardians as they try to deal with their son or daughter’s substance use. Currently, with several other community organizations, I am working as a clinical counsellor for the Surrey Anti-Gang Family Empowerment Program (SAFE). Assisting youth and families who are at-risk of future gang or criminal involvement.

My Approach

I strongly believe that creating a strong and trusting relationship is the key to change. I understand that it takes courage to walk into a therapist’s office and share what is personal, private, and often painful. However, when provided the safe, trusting and non-judgemental environment one is able to feel open and comfortable. I take on a strength-based and culturally sensitive approach when working with families and individuals.

In my work with clients, the approaches I use include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-focused Therapy, and Mindfulness Based strategies, to name a few. When it fits for the client I like to implement art and play therapy. I encourage my clients to strive for a healthy work-life balance that allows them to feel empowered in their life endeavours.
