Are you the parent or caregiver of a child who has experienced a traumatic event or who is dealing with anger, anxiety, sadness, confusion, worry or stress? Do you feel your child is in emotional pain but feel unsure as to how to help them? Watching someone you love, especially a child, suffer emotional pain can be frustrating, heartbreaking and leave the person who cares most about them feeling powerless and unsure as to what to do next.  Like most parents or caregivers of children and adolescents, there comes a time when you simply don’t know where to turn and you feel “stuck.”  While there is no one solution that works for everyone, together we can come up with a plan thats fit for both you and your child.

As an attachment and trauma informed therapist who believes that the family is the first source of support for their child, I understand that children’s emotional problems can sometimes be the result of an unresolved traumatic experience.  When a child or adolescent feels intensely threatened and powerless regarding an event they have experienced or witnessed, a traumatic event has occurred.  Although trauma affects everyone differently, children, especially young children are more vulnerable to the effects of trauma due to their developing brains.  Regardless of whether you want your child to be less worried, deal with their anger, manage their emotions and their behaviour both at home and at school, to be able to ask for help, to be more confident, to be able to make friends, or simply to feel better about themselves, help is available by way of counselling.

I have been helping children, youth and their families for almost 30 years in an open, honest and non -judgemental way and as a parent myself, I understand both the rewards and the challenges of raising children.  By utilizing strength-based and client centered models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Family Systems and Play Therapy, I strive to meet my clients where they’re at and provide safe and supportive counselling environments where all family members are able to build on their strengths and resilience.  The decision to ask for help is not always an easy one and in fact it takes great courage.  I look forward to helping you guide your child towards their full potential.
