Shirley has over 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents and families in a variety of mental health agencies previously in Toronto and now in the lower mainland. She specializes in treating anxiety, low mood, depression and other social-emotional issues. She brings a sense of respect, warmth and care to her clients and works towards creating attainable goals. She utilizes clinically proven CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapies) in her work and bases her work from Narrative Therapy which sees individuals as the expert of their own lives.
She works toward helping her clients to see their values, skills and knowledge which enable them to stand up to the problems they face. She likes to think outside-of-the-box to utilize creative methods such as art, drawing, writing and play-based activity to help her clients engage in therapy.
She is passionate to work alongside parents to help them support their struggling children. Her work with individual/families are informed by family systems theory, attachment theory and trauma-informed practice. Shirley is a trained facilitator for the Triple P Positive parenting programs and the Connect Parent Group and has run many parents groups.
She can also offer counselling in Mandarin and Cantonese.
