Get to Know us Better!
At Vitality Collective it is important to us that we provide quality therapists to help you reach your goals for counselling. This means that everyone that is highlighted in this newsletter and on our website has obtained their certification as a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Canadian Certified Counsellor, or Registered Social Worker after getting their Masters degree in their education.
As we use this space to highlight therapists each month, it is our hope that you will get to know us a bit better. The relationship between you and your counsellor is the key ingredient in helping you reach your goals!
This month’s counsellor is Katarina McCurdy, RCC
What area of mental health do you specialize in?
I specialize in trauma-related counselling and concerns including PTSD, acute stress, secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, crisis, anxiety & stress. I work primarily with first responders and other professionals who have experienced work-related traumas, whether that be on-site supporting staff through a crisis or at my office. My husband and I also offer premarital counselling to couples as they prepare to enter into marriage.
What age group do you work with?
In addition to working alongside other professionals, I spend a lot of my time working with youth (13+ years) and young adults who struggle with anxiety, life transitions, purpose, relationships, trauma, and so on.
What days are you available?
My availability is Monday to Thursday (daytime and/or evening) and some weekends.
How can you help me?
I can create a space for you where you feel safe, understood, and known. I have personally experienced the effects of compassion fatigue, secondary trauma and work-related crisis, and have successfully found ways to cope through it so that I can better care for myself. Similarly, I can help you develop a greater awareness within yourself so that you will feel equipped to overcome any barriers. As a trauma-informed therapist, I can help you find meaning and make sense of what you are experiencing.
What is one fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me is that I speak 3 languages; English, Finnish, and French. I have to be honest, I would struggle to keep a conversation alive in both Finnish and French but I can understand it quite well, and even read in both languages.
