Online Therapy and Counselling in Vancouver
Providing trusted online therapy and virtual counselling in Vancouver, British Columbia, so you can receive the support you need wherever and whenever you need it.
If you’re considering online therapy in Vancouver, but aren’t sure where to begin—you’re not alone. Many people have questions about how virtual counselling works or whether it can be as effective as in-person therapy sessions. At Vitality Collective, we understand starting therapy of any kind can come with a lot of barriers, both emotional and logistical. Whether you’re curious about how online therapy works, the confidentiality of the technology, or how it compares to traditional therapy, we’re here to answer your questions and guide you toward the right type of therapy for you in Vancouver, BC.
How does online therapy work?
At Vitality Collective, our therapists are committed to creating a professional, inclusive, compassionate, and confidential space, whether you connect with us in person or online. Scheduling your first online therapy session is easy and flexible. Start by filling out our New Client Inquiry Form. Our team will be in touch to match you with the best Vancouver therapist for your unique needs. From there, our team will work with you to set up the best time for your first intake session. Our therapists use secure, user-friendly video platforms to ensure your privacy, so all you need is a device with a camera and microphone, plus a quiet, comfortable space where you can be present during your online therapy session. If you prefer to take your session via phone rather than video, that option is available as well. Once our team matches you with the right therapist for your needs and you’ve selected a time that best suits your schedule, you will be sent all of the login information you need for your session. We recommend following the prompts at least five minutes before your session is scheduled to begin in case you run into any technical issues.
Once you’ve logged into your virtual counselling session, your Vancouver therapist will be there with you every step of the way, guiding the conversation and offering support. Above all, we prioritize your confidentiality, and our encrypted platforms ensure that your personal information is always protected. Online therapy in Vancouver with Vitality Collective offers a compassionate, convenient way to receive the support you deserve, from the comfort of your own home.
Is counselling better in person or online?
Both in-person and online therapy in Vancouver are equally effective—the best option really depends on your personal preferences and circumstances. Some people feel more comfortable and focused in the physical presence of a therapist in our Vancouver clinic, appreciating the face-to-face connection. For others, online therapy offers a level of comfort, convenience and flexibility that suits their needs better, especially if they have busy schedules, mobility challenges, or live outside the area. The number one goal at Vitality Collective is making access to the services you need as easy as possible. We want to eliminate your “how would I find the time?” questions or “what if I bumped into someone I know?” worries. Ultimately, the therapeutic process is about the connection between you and your therapist, and that can be built whether you're meeting in person or online. What's most important is that you feel comfortable, supported, and ready to engage.
Is online therapy right for me?
Online therapy offers a convenient, accessible, and effective way to receive counselling, making it a great option for many individuals. Here are some key benefits to consider when deciding if it’s the right fit for you:
1. Proven Effectiveness
Research shows that online counselling is just as effective as in-person sessions. You can receive the same quality of care and support from the comfort of your home as you would in our office.
2. Improved Accessibility
Online therapy makes counselling available no matter where you are. If you live in a rural area, have mobility challenges, or face other barriers to attending in-person sessions, virtual therapy ensures you can still access the care you need.
3. Privacy and Security
Our online counselling sessions are conducted through secure telehealth platforms. Only you and your counsellor are involved, and your information is encrypted using advanced technology, giving you peace of mind about your privacy.
4. Comfort in Your Space
Many people feel more at ease speaking with a counsellor from the comfort of their own home or another private, familiar location. This relaxed environment can make opening up easier, especially for first-time clients.
5. Saves Time and Fits Your Schedule
Without the need to commute, online therapy allows you to fit sessions more seamlessly into your busy schedule. We work with you to find a time that suits your life, so therapy doesn’t feel like another impossible task to squeeze in.
If these benefits resonate with you, online therapy might be the perfect choice to support your mental and emotional well-being.
What should I expect during an online therapy session?
During an online therapy session in Vancouver, you can expect the same level of care, professionalism, and support as you would in an in-person session. After you schedule your appointment, you’ll receive a secure link to join the therapy session, and all you need is a device with a camera and a stable internet connection. Once you connect with your Vancouver therapist, the session will follow a similar flow as it would if it were in-person. Your therapist will start by checking in with you, discussing how you’ve been feeling since the previous session and setting expectations and intentions for the session ahead.
Throughout your online therapy session, your Vancouver therapist will offer support, tools, and strategies to suit your needs. The only difference is that you’ll be connecting virtually, which can often feel just as personal and engaging as face-to-face interactions. You can expect a safe, confidential, and supportive space where you can talk openly and work toward your goals—whether you're in the comfort of your home, a quiet space, or anywhere that feels comfortable to you.

Many extended health care providers cover part or all of your online therapy fees. Since each plan is different, we recommend checking with your provider to confirm coverage. If your plan allows for direct billing, we can happily set that up for you.
If you are experiencing financial hardship, some of our Vancouver counsellors offer sliding scale/reduced fees based on availability. Please reach out to our client care coordinator to inquire if we have reduced fee spots available.
Is therapy covered by BC health?
Counselling, whether in-person or virtual, is not typically covered by BC Medical (MSP). In some cases, MSP may cover counselling services if they are provided through a hospital program or a mental health team. For additional support, BC residents can access various free and low-cost virtual mental health services here.
In addition, many extended health care plans may provide coverage for online therapy sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor, so it's a good idea to check with your provider to see if they offer reimbursement for this service. If you have any questions about fees for online therapy, please contact us and we’d be happy to help.
